5 Simple Ways to Calm Your Dog

#DoggyBlog #Poop4U

We love our furry friends—they ease our anxieties, bring happiness and love into our lives, and make the best of friends.

Because we have so much affection for them, and because they do so much for calming our own stress, we must do the same for them. Whether you have a super-playful pup that needs some chill time or an anxious pet that hates being home alone, I’m sharing a few different ways to calm your dog.

A Few Simple Ways to Calm Your Dog

5 Simple Ways to Calm Your Dog

1. Exercise Daily

One of the best ways to calm your dog—whether she’s hyper or anxious—is to get in some quality exercise every day. This involves more than letting your dog wander around the backyard each day; you’ll want to make a conscious daily effort to exercise your pet.

Go on walks or runs with your dog, play games—whatever the two of you enjoy, just get her moving.

2. Try Aromatherapy

Just like you love the calming benefits of essential oils, your dog will also love the way aromatherapy soothes her. Special essential oils for pets can help calm them—be sure to purchase vet-approved, specially formulated oils that are properly diluted for animals.

Go for oils such as chamomile, lavender, and bergamot, which have grounding properties. Then apply the oil along your dog’s back and other areas that are out of licking reach.

3. Create a Comforting Space

This is especially important for households that don’t allow their pets on the furniture. When you don’t allow them to rest on the same areas as you, this can make them feel unimportant.

Get a nice bed or playpen that makes your dog feel comfortable and special. Items such as a Pop n’ Go can help your dog feel like she has her own little home to retire to when she’s tired or overwhelmed.

4. Use Positive Reinforcement

Positive reinforcement can go a long way for calming pets, especially dogs. Praise and treats show her that when she obeys and behaves well, good things will come. The more you reward good behavior, the more your dog will strive to behave.

5. Use Physical Touch

This may not work for all pets, but many animals simply love physical contact. Dogs in particular are social animals, and they often feel better when they receive pats and belly rubs from those they love.

Physical touch is your dog’s love language! Comfort her when she needs it, such as when she’s nervous or overwhelmed—it will go a long way toward calming and relaxing her.
